You Don't Need Weight Loss Supplements

Weight loss supplements have become very popular over recent years. There are weight loss supplements that make you feel full and others for speeding up the metabolism, they are usually made from natural ingredients. The most popular reason for taking weight loss supplements is to lose weight fast and it seems the faster, the better. Our society is based on immediate gratification, why work hard when you can take something that will do it much faster.

This is a very short term view to have on weight loss; take a pill to lose weight fast, what do you learn from that? Going on a diet or weight loss program and sticking to it usually means losing a lot of weight quickly. I can’t help but wonder if this mindset has stemmed from television shows such as The Biggest Loser. If you haven’t lost 10 pounds in one week, then it’s a bad week. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching the show and find it inspiring that everyday people can be so dedicated to such an enormous challenge, but people watching the show have to realize that this is exactly what is, a television show. These people live weight loss for months, with nothing else to focus on, in our everyday lives this is the exact opposite. We have so many responsibilities and juggling them everyday leaves little time to focus that level of energy on weight loss.

The point that I am trying to make is that weight loss has to be part of a healthy, active lifestyle. There are no shortcuts; anything worthwhile in your life takes hard work and focus. Why would you want to risk your health for the rest of your life taking pills and yo-yo dieting when you can learn how to positively change your lifestyle? A long term solution to weight loss is to take responsibility for what you are putting in your mouth and respecting your body by being active. It is harder for this generation to easily incorporate exercise into our day; we have to book it in like we do appointments. It seemed easier for our parents and their parents as they didn’t have the conveniences we have now. Their day consisted of physical activity than what most of us would probably do in a week.

What do you need to do to never diet again?

I am not supportive of taking pills or strict diets to lose weight.  You need to educate yourself and learn how to make better choices everyday and enjoy the feeling of moving everyday.  If you follow a healthy lifestyle you will never need to count calories or weigh food because you know that what you are eating is healthy and natural.
